How to Get that HOT Bod at Your Desk Job

| April 6, 2017 1:07 pm

Have you ever had your legs fall asleep while you’re at your desk typing away? There’s a reason for that. You bored them to sleep! Are you allowed to sleep at your job? Well neither should your legs, arms or anything else that tends to go numb while you’re at work. Time to wake your body up!

No excuses. You can still burn calories while sitting at your desk. And it’s not just about burning calories. You may not get that hot bod – (yes, the title of this blog is deceiving, but, hey, you’re reading it) however, you will feel less lethargic and beat during those “patchy” periods of the day. From my experience, it also helps the day go by faster because increasing your blood circulation can have a positive impact on your productivity. Unless, of course, you WANT the day to go by super slow – said nobody ever.

There are tons of articles with simple exercises that you can google, so instead of trying to unsuccessfully recreate fancy graphics, I will just mention some of my favorites:

Calf raises – Getting in the elevator? STOP! Use the stairs. Do a calf raise each step you go up. For shorter staircases, do multiple calf raises for each step.

Sitting calf raises – You’re already sitting at your desk, so just plant both feet on the ground and lift your heels up and down. Do a few sets of 30.

Leg kicks – Got a print job that might take 5-10 min? Or perhaps you are waiting for that coffee to brew. Whatever project you have that requires you to stand for a few, kick one leg backwards or to the side about 15 times and then switch legs. Keep doing sets until your print job is complete or your coffee is ready.

Core – Simply flex your abs while sitting at your chair. Start off with 2 sets of 30.

Arms/Chest – Every building has a wall, so find one and do some wall push ups. At some point you’re going to have to walk around, so just take a few minutes to add these to your day. 2-3 sets should take 2-3 min. Or you can use your desk to increase the angle and make it harder.

Back – Make mom proud! Sit up straight, chest out, shoulders back. Put a book on your head if you’re already a pro.

I’m not suggesting anything extreme, like becoming a vegan or limiting yourself to a ridiculously low amount of calories. These exercises will help you be more physically active with minimal effort and little to no extra devotion of time. It could even potentially provide the catalyst you need to take your physical health a step further. Start the process now! What do you have to lose, except for a few pounds?
