Let’s Change It Up!

| September 19, 2017 11:45 am

Many of us in our careers seem to get into some sort of a rut from time to time. We have a set schedule that we stick to and the daily grind becomes one that lasts for years. We wake up, grab a coffee to go, commute to work, sit at a desk all day, drive home, have dinner, go to bed and start all over again the next day. How is this motivating or productive? Do you ever feel that this is you? If so, CHANGE IT UP!

Winston Churchill says it best: “To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often.”

Try adding something new to your daily grind. Add a walk around the building to get fresh air and break up the day. Treat yourself to a special lunch or coffee once a week. Read an article that teaches you something new. Add something different into your schedule, something new that you look forward to each day. Fall is the time of year for change, the leaves are changing colors, there is a new crispness to the air, school is back in session….. why not change your up your schedule a bit?

“The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.” -Socrates. Some of us are resisters to change. We are comfortable stuck in our ways. We are not partial to anything that would break up our set schedules. The essence of it all is that everything is changing around us constantly, so why not change with it? We must foster change to become a stronger, more productive version of ourselves. Personally, we’ve seen a lot of change within the recruiting industry itself lately. For one, employers are now requiring face-time and the abundance of “work-from-home” positions that once were flooding the market are no longer as abundant. Why? Because now people value the opportunity to meet with others face-to-face. To be able to sit down with someone and improve productivity, add to the company culture and to be more present and accessible.

As you start each day, you should put something in your schedule that motivates you. Add something that changes up the daily grind in empowering you as an individual, personal and professional. The Harvard Business Review’s “10 Must Read’s- On Sales” mentions that “the key to success, in the simplest terms, is to hire the best employees, create an empowering environment, provide the necessary tools and guidance, and then get out of the way.” Most employers are always seeking candidates that have new and inventive ways of doing things. How can you be one of those progressive employee’s if you can’t break out of your own rut?

I challenge each of you today to do something new in your schedule. If you do, you will see the impact that it has on your personality, productivity, and overall well-being. I’m not saying this is a complete game-changer by any means, but it will allow for you to have a new sense of motivation to possibly achieving a goal or allowing for you to have a mental break from the same old day-to-day.

“The future depends on what you do in the present.”- Gandhi. Now go CHANGE IT UP!
