Looking Back on 2017

| December 29, 2017 4:15 pm

In many ways, 2017 was a paradox. On one hand, the stock market went up 25%, hitting an all-time high. Unemployment dropped and companies had record cash reserves. On the other hand, our country went through a roller coaster of breaking news, political discord, stress about the environment, a potential war and how we are viewed on the world stage. I think it’s safe to say many of us are happy to put this year behind us. For our collective sanity, we could use a calmer 2018.

For NSS RPO, 2017 was yet another banner year. We made the Inc. 5000 for the third year in a row and remain one of the nations fastest growing companies. We also made the Washington Business Journal’s Top 25 list of Staffing Agencies for the third year running.

We moved into a new office five times the size of our previous space and switched to a new CRM, vastly expanding our capabilities. We converted Priya Jindal from part to full-time and she’s been tasked with managing and growing our team of RPO Recruiters. Two of those recruiters, Michele Reed and Joe Guastella hit the 7 year mark with us early next year and they’ve been with me since I ran the company out of a spare bedroom in our old townhouse. They’re part of our foundation and have helped us build our stellar reputation in the RPO space.

Internally, our team kept humming right along. John Rice hit the 5 year mark as our Director of Business Development while Mandy VittoJohn Motley and Emma Sieber all had anniversaries. Since we started, not a single internal employee has left our company and I think that’s pretty rare these days. We have developed something truly special and more than ever, need to nurture and protect our culture.

Our company is part of the larger economic landscape and from our perspective, 2018 should be a fantastic year for jobs and overall hiring. The effects of the massive tax cuts remain to be seen but we’re hopeful and optimistic that it leads to higher wages for the American worker.

No matter what side of the aisle you’re in (if you’re even in an aisle), we’re in this together and all have a vested interest in America continuing to be “a shining city upon a hill whose beacon light guides freedom-loving people everywhere.” Ronald Reagan said those words in his last speech from the Oval Office in 1989 and never have they sounded as resonant as they do today.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and from the NSS RPO family to yours, we wish you a healthy, happy, peaceful and prosperous 2018.
